Kristen Galles, a DC attorney with national expertise in Title IX, serves on the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund Attorney Advisory Committee, which reviews legal cases seeking LAF support. Kristen will speak about LAF’s work and the trends in cases that are seeking funding. She will also speak about AAUW’s work in areas impacting higher education. More about Ms. Galles.

The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund provides funding and a support system for individuals seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education. In cooperation with its parent organization, the AAUW Educational Foundation, it has sponsored the publication of several reports dealing with aspects sex discrimination in higher education, including Tenure Denied and Drawing the Line: Sexual Harassment on Campus. It also sponsors the Progress in Equity Award that recognizes campuses for programs resulting in significant progress for women. The 2008 deadline for applying for the PIE award is March 14.

This event is co-sponsored by AAUW of North Carolina, advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. In honor of this event, AAUW NC has established a challenge fund of $500 which will match individual and branch donations to LAF through April 1, 2008.
