AAUW of North Carolina is proud to partner with the ERA-NC Alliance and NC NOW to create a billboard advertising campaign promoting state-wide ERA support. The billboard will highlight that although more women than men vote in North Carolina, zero women have equal rights under the U.S. Constitution.
We’ll launch the publicity campaign and unveil the billboard design with a press conference on August 22 at the Legislative Building in Raleigh. Presidents of all three organizations and the primary NC legislative sponsors, Sen, Floyd B. McKissick, Jr. and Rep. Carla Cunningham, will be there along with several other legislative sponsors.
Four billboards will be posted in Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro and Wilmington, all in high traffic locations, so the maximum number of people will see them during the weeks prior to Constitution Day on September 17. Our goal with this campaign is to increase awareness and active support from more people in North Carolina. This support is essential to capture the attention of NC legislators!
Only one more state is needed to meet the 38 states required for ratification of a new Constitutional Amendment. North Carolina has the opportunity to be the 38th – and final – state necessary to ratify ERA, guaranteeing equal rights for women and men under the U.S. Constitution. Please communicate with your NC legislators to help them understand ERA will protect essential liberties for men and women.
We thank our collaboration partners, the ERA Alliance and NC NOW, for this project to support and promote passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. What an honor if North Carolina will vote to ratify ERA and be the final state to approve Constitutional protection of equal rights for all Americans!
